Pineapple Hot Plate Mat

Recycle your bottle caps - the kind that have crimped edges and need a bottle opener to remove them from the bottle. This technique of covering bottle caps was popular in the mid 20th century. The pineapple is a traditional symbol to welcome guests into the home. Imagine this mat being used for serving pineapple upside-down cake!

Cap Cover: Make 54
Leaf: Make 10

Finishing:
Place 2 leaves together with WS facing. Using 1 strand of B and working through both layers, join thread with a slip st into base of leaf. Slip st layers together and fasten off at end of base, leaving a long tail for sewing. Repeat with remaining leaves. Sew caps together as pictured. Using tails from leaves, sew leaves together and to top of mat.
